OK, some updates.

30 March:
OUR SYF!!!
That day was em...quite scary for many of us, right?
We've gotten a BRONZE!!!haha(:

Trumpeters, we know our standards lah hor?
I know I have also made some mistakes. Yes, music cannot be perfected.
BUT HEY, we should learn from our mistakes and IMPROVE is the key.
And, we should not push the blame each other.Remember?
This is not the way trumpeters should behave.So change.
BE UNITED YA!!!!!

Speech day 2009:
Played Yagi Bushi.
Although we've improve on some parts in the piece, we should keep it up.(:

Sports day:
Er... I think we've only won one medal.haha.BUT good still.LOL
Finally one after don't know how many years.(((:
YAY!

Please be more independent in the future.Sometimes, we must learn by ourselves.
And as you all know that some of you all were not from the trumpet section from the start or joined us very late , so please improve to the standard you should be in. Should not have the mentality that you only came to join the trumpeters at a later time and you could learn slowly and have many excuses. Look at our current number of trumpeters..........

Hey Trumpeters, SYF coming already. Feel stressed or not?
We really have to put in more effort and no more slacking.
I know sometimes you feel tired, just rest AWHILE and continue.Know when to be at your best.
But better to be at your best at all times lah. LOL
So ya, remember to push yourself and remind each other to "on" the "engine". :D

XinYun and CaiYi, if you can improve your playing for the two pieces and your attitudes,

Yes, 2009 already, so hope that it will be a better year.And even though we won't be going for SYF this year due to some circumstances............But please don't become slackers.
Because we still have to carry on with playing music in band.

Good afternoon.Yes I'm back.

I really hope all the trumpeters will be present during practices.Really.

I'm really worrying about you all.Fearing this fearing that.Ya I know,
sometimes I'm just too lor soh...but I hope you all understand.
This is the instrument that you have chosen, so you must give your best to learn.

And please don't be lazy ok? (:
As you know, the last practice which is on Mon,we started on the gimmics for the orientation le.I can tell that Mr Lim and Ms Loh was unhapy that the attendance for our section is really not good...

As you can see, when we are doing those marching and gimmics and stuffs,we really need to know the positions that we are gonna stand at.And if just one person is absent on that particular day, it will be hard to coordinate again.
Must to come ok??

Many people hopes to participate SYF.I know you might want too...
So let's strive together ok??
I may not be able to motivate you all.But at least we can play together right.

Ok, since there had been so many things happening to everyone or band, let's improve on everything and try to buck up.NO not just try .BUCK UP."pull the socks up", haha, and reflect on what you have done.Nobody's perfect.Don't think you are tat perfect.Practice more and well,and stop being lazy liao!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry people for neglecting this blog for so long.

Its going dead soon yeahs?

Well, i supposed everyone had enjoyed your trip to thailand yeahs?

In Keseatsart University, We did and learnt many basic.

And most of it Mr Lim had told and taught us before - Breathing exercise.

And in the high school, we've seen for ourselves that there're many good bands out there.

Just alone their warm-ups and scales, they would take very good care of their intonation, note value, sound and everything which we often neglect.

The End of the Passing Out Parade ceremony yesterday marks the end of your graduating sec 4s of their band life in these 4/5 years. We feel the utmost upset but yet glad to see that they've officially became an alumni of FTP concert band and reaching for your higher course of studies and new lease of their life.

Yet, the door to the FTP band room would always be open for you guys.

Although there's often some disputes between us, yet we could not deny that we all share the utmost band sprit in us. From what i remember last year, when many could see that people broke into cliques, to now, from what many of us know, during the last stay in thailand, how nice it was to be once for all be reunited. Therefore, many would say, times in Keseatsart. University and the last day, were the most memorable ones. It is true that, sometimes when opinions clashes, and both parties are unwilling to hear each other out, arguements are bound to be there. Yet, after all these months of learning, our band is starting to grow up in terms of mentality, people now do share each other opinions. The graduating seniors would now officially step down to concentrate on their O'lvls. So, i believe, after the thailand trip and many other things, we're now motivated to put in more effort for everything. And, if we want another oversea trip, we've got to earn it for ourselves now. We've got to stand on our own feets, not waiting for our seniors to mouth-feed us anymore.

Secondary Fours Graduating seniors, thank you for what you've all done and given to our band. We extend our gratitude and apology for those times of unhappiness and trouble we've given you.

Please do remember to come back, The Doors Of FTPSS CONCERT BAND would welcome you with both hands. (:

Hey guys!

Najib,a friend of Mr Lim,will be performing for all of Mr Lim's current trumpeters on saturday,so I hope everyone will be there.I will NOT be attending my MT lesson,so I do not see why the rest of you should not make sacrifices.

Najib is a scholar studying music,and he is here for just this time.This could be a once in a life-time opportunity,so do NOT miss it!!!!

Well,I am not sure whether we should get him something as FTP Trums or with all the trums for Mr Lim's schools.I will check with their SLs and see how.

Seems like we got competition now [From saxos and clars]....hmmmm,we must be the best still!!!!

Okay,theres no need to count down to camp and concert,cos everyone should know.

In the camp, lets all jia you that nobody can punished, even if not same section and/or group. We are all 1 band and stand together!!

The sitting arrangement, I will write down and birng so that we do not get confused.
I think the best way is that everybody write down on their scores who are the 2 ppl beside them for that song, so easy for everyone. Sectionals, lets not waste time liao, we chiong! But we must remember the 12 Winston Ways to practice. SL, please post or give me the list I post.

if u play it with the abnormal volume,
when u play in combine, u will tend to play louder..
with more air, it will not go flat.. so it will be useless to tune..
thats why..

why mr lim always say 'dont go flat'???
its because not enough air support..
so u can try put in more air...

why will you sound airy..??
its because either your embrosure(how to spell??) did not place properly
or not enough air.. so u can try to adjust your lips or put in more air..

rhythms problem..???
sing before u sleep every night???
if u are uncertain of any single rhythm,please ask..
it wont be pai seh... help yourself kies..

u still have the problem of forgetting sharps or flats..??

Today,after band,me and Dan Feng went to buy gifts for the Hougang trumpeters for thier concert tomorrow.

i did enjoyed mine~.. somehow larh..
haha..well.. saw shivam's post..
my fingers start to itch~!!

its good to learn from one another..
soo.. here are my probs!!

hmmm..
first.. we did scales slur up and tongue down..
well.. my lips and tongue were alright but i cant even go up to high G..
so it was discovered that i used too little air to support..
the higher the pitch is, the more air support it needs..
if a little crescendo is added, it will sound even better!!
it will also sound even too..

then the second was...
mr lun asked me if i tried to smile while playing..
but of course i said no.. haha.. its really a no..
hmmm.. so as the result, i stretch my muscles too wide..
he said that the muscles should always be stable..
as in at a permanent spot..
with it, the prob of getting high pitch will also improve too..

so.. thats roughly what we worked on ytd.. :)

Warm Down

Yesterday,during sectionals with Mr Lun,he told me about Warm Down.

Mr Lun said we must warm down because the next time we play,our embouchure will change.We might not notice it,but after a long time,our embouchure will be loosen and weak.
Also,this will happen especially when after we play alot of songs with fast,jumpy rhythm and long and high notes.

To warm down,we must buzz long and smoothly from LOW C to HIGH G,then from LOW C to HIGH C,then LOW C to MIDDLE G,after that LOW C to LOW E and then LONG of LOW C.
Must do this cycle a few times.

Mr Lun says that after you warm down,you can start playing back the trumpet like normal after between 20-40 mins break.

I think after every practice,we should warm down together.

Also,he told me for my personal playing is that I change my embouchure when I start playing high D and above.He told me should not do that because in the long run,I will suffer.
Maybe applies to all of us.
Then he said dont try to change now as we are having a concert very soon.So maybe after that I will change.

hmm...Yesterday was fun after talking among trumpeters,cos we understand each other abit more... ,ok...Ms

Tan came yesterday and touched on Loch Lomond.she said tat we r lyk robots...cos when she asked if anyone

felt pieces touching or have goosebumps coming out after hearing them or even cry ...and...no one raised

their hands...probably shy or sth...i don't noe.haha.REMEMBER what Ms Tan said: Bury the score into

ur head and not bury ur head into the score.

Em...For Loch Lomond thirds come out more at the starting cos important somemore first n second got

crochet so we must bring out even more...until their melody then we tone down abit...

okie.. i'll try to list down some stuff..

1st:
wen ting is perfectly alright..
so shivam!! dont worry or panick.. haha..
be yourself..

2nd:
hmm.. if anyone wants to do anything..
please.. think for all possible solutions and list down each and everyone of them..
know it's consequences and will it really solve the problems...
if there is no regrets, do it..

3rd:
be united..
face the problem

4th:
guts.. although i saw improvements from everyone..
but some parts on the scores are still not so sure for some of you..
of cuz that include myself.. haha.. so.. sort it out yourself..
if not sure please ask.. you don't wanna be a burden to the band ya...

5th:
just like the few conductors had said before..
c.o.n.f.i.d.e.n.c.e... you got the correct notes and pitches..
without confidence, it will just seems to be wrong..

6th:
if you wanna have a good crescendo start SOFTER!!!
this applies to all~!!!! same for decrescendo... start louder..

7th:
louder doesnt mean blasty sound..
although im known for loudness..
but i found out that good qualitly of sound is very important..
too loud or blasty will make the band sound ugly!!!
so be very CAREFUL!!

8th:
soft sound doesnt mean weak sound!!!
it still needs lots of air support!!!!

9th:
if you wanna know how to manage to play high pitch...
..............................................................................................
1st -> get your low pitch stable and full..
...............................................................................................
2nd -> work on the buzzing -> have strong buzzing,
it will help you on your playing to sound stronger..
...............................................................................................
3rd -> play the notes long,deep and stable..
if you can get that, continue the next note up a step...
...............................................................................................
-if you can't get it stable or deep , try working on it..
practise more..
-if you are too tired, just buzz the PITCH with your
mouthpiece..
-the higher you can buzz,the higher you can sound..
-try mr lun method,buzz up using slur and tongue..
................................................................................................
HOWEVER!!!!
dont practise high pitches too much..
15 mins a day will be fine..
but if you want to improve, do it everyday..
-why dont pract too much -> you will know if u try it.. :)
better not hurh.. haha.. it will spoil your tone quality too..

1st - to get rich deep sound..
2nd - becareful on tone quality
3rd - length of each note!!!

TRUMPET BLOG I MISS YOU!

Sorry tat we abandoned u for soooooooo long.....Many things had happened le. Haiz.....very down now...cos something bad going to happen le...what had happen to our trumpet section.Why! Arghhhhh...we can't afford to loose any trumpeter, band member, teamate,or even a friend.Each n everyone is important...
Of course everybody dislikes the environment tat contains sarcarsm n hatred...we want a peaceful environment,bandroom, and be a happy FAMILY...And now look at us ...so much problems le... why not clear all these problems' "roots" and play our wonderful instruments with encouragement to each other, as our band family... With lesser hatred and etc we would not be so stress and could play better and help each other.Haiz.....
although we dun play so well...but at least we try very hard for our best k...jia you
And trumpeters we must rmb to keep our tone nice leh...keep blasting n blasting not very good...very pai seh de leh...So really jia you jia you le.

Hey trums....I know you guys have been both busy studying and revising day and night and practicing your trumpet and drills [i hope so],but we all have to face things and tackle it....

I was thinking,maybe one day we can go out as a section,with all our "BIG ONES" like Ah Ting, Tata Sauce [Jeevita] and if can, even with Beatrice,Masnurie,Seri and Rebecca....

Then I was also thinking about making a section tee....we all togethger design it!!!!

Jadikan dua barisan,kiri/kekanan/tengah,lurus
=> form up 2 rows , left / right / center
Jadikan tiga basisan,kiri/kekanan/tengah,lurus
=> form up 3 rows , left / right / center

kiri pusing=> left turn
kanan pusing => right turn
ke-be-la-kang pusing => about face, turn 180 degree

hentak kaki,cepat hentak => mark time (march on spot)

ber-hen-ti => stop

ser-di-a =>attention

se-nang-di-ri => at ease
